Carrie’s war

For key skills this week, everyone was asked to finish reading Carrie’s War.

Two questions to think about:

1) Can you summarise the whole book in a paragraph?

2) Did the ending match the predictions that you had previously made? Did you expect what happened at the end?

    Sumary:
The book is about a girl and her brother(Carrie and Nick) who are evacuated to a house in the countryside because of the war. They have ups and downs there as well as having many different adventures. They meet some very kind people as well as someone who can’t speak properly. They also meet Mr Evans who isn’t very kind until the end. During all of that, they learn about the screaming skull which can bring Druids Bottom bad luck. At the end, when Carrie and Nick leave the countryside, they see that Druids Bottom is on fire. Carrie then thinks it is all her fault.

    Ending:
The ending was very different to what I thought would happen. I wasn’t expecting the house to burn down or Mister Johny to speak properly. I Knew that something bad was going to happen but not what did. I thought that Carrie would say something different to Mr Evans to what Mrs Gotobed had asked her to say; messing everything up. I didn’t expect her to throw a skull down a well.

1)It about a girl and her brother who go to Driud Bottom in World War Two. She meets lots of characters on her stay. Carrie believe in Mr Evans when no one else did. Her mum sent her a letter at the end and she goes and lives with her in Glasglow. Just befor she levees she think she did the worse think ever. There are some heartbracking moment and some weird moment and horrible moments. But it a lovely book.

    2) The ending match my prediction. I didn’t think it would actually set on fire. I love how Nina ( the writer of the book) has described it how Carrie was feeling though out this book. I thought Nick set the fire off.

Carrie and her children are going on holiday and they pass were she grew up for some time in the second world war. The children want to go down to Druids bottom but Carrie says no. Carrie and Nick get sent off to Wales during the second world war. They stay With Mr Evans and Aunie Lou and meet a friend named Albert Sandwich. They also meet Hepzibah Green , Mister Jonnie and Mrs Gotobed. They meet Mr Evanses son Fredrick and Mrs Gotobed who is normally inside goes outside. She dies one day in July and Mr Evans owns her house.Carrie and Nicks mum say that they are to go and live with her in Glasgow. Hepzibah and Mister Jonnie still live in Druids bottom. Carrie throws the cursed skull in to the pond. When she and Nick where on the train Druids bottom went up in flames. Auntie Lou got married to an American soldier and Mr Evans dies.

My prediction does not match because I thought that Carrie would do some thing extravagant to try and fix Mr Evans and Auntie Lous relationship like locking them in a room together until they stop arguing but she does not really do something to extravagant. I also thought that Carrie and Nick would stay until the end if the war but then they would never want to leave. Or Auntie Lou to stay with her brother for ever and they would almost be best friends

    1) Can you summarise the whole book in a paragraph?

The book is about a girl called Carrie Willow showing her children the life in war. She used to lives in London, with his little brother Nick, and then got evacuated to wales to a person called Mr Evans and Miss Evans. Mr Evans was a strict man working in a shop. Miss Evans was Mr Evans’ sister.A few days before Christmas Carrie and Nick got to go and get the turkey from Druids Bottom and that when they discovered the place called Driuds bottom lots of things happened there. Carrie and Nick met Hepzibah,Albert,Mister Jonny and Mrs Gotobed. Mrs Gotobed dies in July on a hot summers day. Hepzibah, Mister Jonny and Albert had to leave so as Carries and Nick. Carrie and Nick’s mother moved to Glasgow so they had to go. And at the end it goes back to the present and Carries shows their Children around Druids Bottom.

2)Did the ending match the predictions that you had previously made? Did you expect what happened at the end?

    My predictions did not match.

I thought Carrie and Nick were going to live in Druids Bottom and never go back because there was WAR going on.

    1) Carrie’s War is based on a WW2 evacuee who is telling her experience to her children. The story begins when she and her brother, Nick, get evacuated and have to live with a man named Mr Evans and his sister Auntie Lou. Mr Evans is not very pleasant to the children. They meet a lady down the road called Hepzibah who takes care of Mr Evans’ sister, Mrs Gotobed. Hepzibah also lives with a man called Mr Johnny; he has learning difficulties. Throughout the story the main theme is Carrie’s relationship with all the people she meets at Druids Bottom. One of the major events that happened was that Mrs Gotobed died and we discovered the effects it had on Mr Evans, Hepzibah and Carrie. At the end Carrie believes that she caused a fire at Druids Bottom and spends her whole life feeling guilty about this, this was Carrie’s actual war.

2)At the end I expected that there would be a fire as when we first looked at the book we predicted from the front cover. I didn’t expect that Mr Evans would die from something wrong with his heart; I thought that Carrie would have done something to him as he was being so horrible. Also I didn’t think that Carrie would have thrown the skull into the bottomless horse pond, but she did.

1.Carrie’s war was a story about 2 children who were evacuated in world war 2. They were sent to Wales where they stayed with Auntie Lou and Mr Evens who owned a shop. Carrie and her brother Nick made good friends with Albert Sandwhich who lived with Hepzibah, Mr Johnny who was very special and Mrs Gotobed who was Mr Evens and Auntie Lou’s sister. They had a few adventures along the way with a roller coaster of emotions. Carrie and Nick left wales to go back to their mother and were sad to leave. After leaving on the train Carrie saw the house at Druid’s bottom on fire that was where Hepzibah, Mr Johnny and Albert lived and she believed it was her fault that the fire started because of her throwing the skull into the horse pond. Years later Carrie took back her children to Druids bottom to show them where she went during the war. Her children found Hepzibah and Mr Johnnny alive in a barn near the old burnt house and Albert was alive to. The children went to find their mother to tell her that her old friends were alive still.
    2. I expected that Hepzibah, Mr Johnny and Albert to be dead from the fire, also i didn’t expect Mr Johnny to talk in the end. I would of liked to of read about Carrie going to see Hepzibah with her children and finding out they are all ok.

1)Carries War is about 2 refuges in the second world war. They stay with a family in Wales and have a close friend they visit in Druids bottom. Mr Evans and Auntie Lou are the people they stay with. Carrie and Nick have both had troubling experiences but they all lead to a happy
    ending.
2)I didn’t think Druids bottom would go up in flames while Carrie and Nick went back to there mum near Glasgow. I never thought Mr Jonny would ever learn to speak. I didn’t think Mr Evans would die.

I didn’t expect that I thought it was Carrie who coursed the fire because she didn’t like Mr Evans that what I predicted off the front cover it was interesting that Mr Evans got what he wanted but he was lonely
